Wear an oversized button-down without constant adjustment
An oversized shirt should feel intentionally roomy without getting in the way. Adjust the hem, cuffs and layers according to how the fabric behaves.

Fasten the shirt and reach forward before deciding that its extra width makes it comfortable. An oversized body can still have a tight upper sleeve, a restrictive collar or a hem that pulls across the hips. Check those points first. The right fit lets the shirt move without requiring every button to remain open.
Choose one way to manage the hem
Try the shirt loose, then with a small front tuck, then open over a simple top. Those three arrangements use the same piece differently. A full tuck may create more bulk than you want, particularly with stiff cotton and a close waistband. You do not need to force it if a partial tuck or an untucked hem feels better.
If the shirt is very long, sit down and see where the fabric gathers. A curved hem may move more easily than a straight one, but the actual cut matters. Avoid treating the back view as an afterthought. The shirt should still feel settled after standing up from a chair.
Make the sleeves cooperate
Roll the cuffs in a way that stays comfortably below or above the elbow as preferred. Thick repeated rolls can become bulky and tight. If you need to push the sleeves up all day, a shorter sleeve or lighter fabric may be a better option than a cuff that keeps falling into your hands.
With wide pants, a shorter visible section of shirt can provide contrast; with straight jeans, you might prefer the entire loose hem. These are experiments in proportion rather than body rules. Keep the shoes and bag familiar while testing so only one variable changes at a time.
An oversized shirt can also work as a light layer over a tank or tee. Check that the underlayer is comfortable on its own if you remove the shirt later. Choose the shirt's care routine with regular use in mind: a fabric that needs more pressing than you want may end up unworn despite an appealing cut.
Once one arrangement feels easy, repeat it. An ordinary shirt becomes versatile through a few reliable ways of wearing it, not through a different knot, tuck and accessory combination every morning.
